I must remind the group that we’re going to see Jimin react to this album on camera I can’t believe he survived listening to nuts knowing army was going to hear it too
Going to dump my thoughts ✌️
RPWP: intro the album. Already plenty of fucks and shits. Oh I’m so into it.
Nuts: oh she’s a funky song. PRO RIDER. Joonie saw JK go full on spicy and said bet. I need to know the Korean lyrics.
Out of love: I had to start it again bc that transition. This is an album to listen straight through. THE SMOKING LINE I SCREAMED GOOD FOR HIM. Once again I need the lyrics asap. It’s so good.
Domodachi: ok I’m breathing again and I’m starting to notice that sonically this is album is so great. I love the background singers here. Ok lil simz go off!!!!!!!
Mid album thoughts: this album is for the change pt 2 people!! Which is me.
? : will come back to this after I hear the rest I feel like there’s a big old connection point
Groin: bass!! Ok I need the lyrics for this one too he’s going offff. “Not a fucking diplomat” 🌝
Heaven: easy listening I like the vibe. “My peace is unbreakable”!!! I love this Joon. It’s so good.
Lost: I do really like it! I am thinking about the messaging he’s putting out in press releases etc about thinking about life if you made different choices. I think it’s interesting to think about a life lived in this confined space, facing enlistment as a highly visible figure, and taking time to be purposely “lost”
Around the world in a day: Moses sumney’s voice is so great on this and I love how they compliment each other. When the energy changes I was that meme of the person ascending with the light. First listen favorite.
ㅠㅠ: I’ll be waiting for ya long after the credits roll Namjoon 😊.
Come Back To Me: so strange hearing this after the album. Such a gentle song compared to the album.
Edit x100 I’m listening through again and this makes me so excited for 2025 group bangtan music. He’s so unbothered it’s going to be amazing.
Out of love playing right after Nuts is INSANE. Holy heck I did not expect it to continue???
omg out of love “smoking kills, I know, it’s my fucking business. You bitches, stop, don’t talk shit” HOLY SHIT
Namjoon you beautiful fucking weirdo. I haven’t finished yet, but holy shit
Edit after listening: I love how much of an album artist he is….what a dynamic collection, it straight up felt like an adventure. The whole thing is so deeply groovy. ‘Around the world in a day’ is genius. I’m gonna need to listen a couple more times, too overwhelmed to really think too much now.
I think Heaven is my favorite so far! can’t wait to read the lyric translations for everything
i’m on Heaven and i loveeee this album already. i can’t wait for translations bc i know he’s either popping off or saying something so unhinged in multiple songs and i’m ready
Busy listening, so far Groin has been the most immediately accessible to me, which is such a weird fucking sentence I just had to type it out 🤣
Oh wait, hear comes Heaven. (Is it weird that it comes right after Groin, because that’s not usually my experience, as a heterosexual woman.)
Edit: I LOVE that CBTM is the last track on the album. It’s like you’re taken on this wild sonic ride that goes helter skelter through all sorts of thoughts and emotions, and then at the end, CBTM is your safe place to land. You are my pain divine.
My god is anyone else getting full blown 60s psychedelia and 70s funk all rolled into one?
Some dirty dirty bass going for a long walk on this album and I love it
I can totally see why he kept calling this a project. It is sooooo much more than just an album. I *adore* it. I mentioned it in the MV thread, but the entire album is *very* a Balming Tiger, Gorillaz type alternative and completely up my alley. I really love Domodachi and Groin. I can see myself screaming along to Groin as I angry-drive into work. 🤣
Wow, am I proud of him for putting this out. This is a different sound than we’re used to, but it is so totally Joon. I’m so happy for him and that he got to do exactly what he wanted and that we get to experience it. Proud proud proud.
Ohhhhh Joon the musical prodigy you are… I’m only halfway in and sonically this album is extremely impressive. The way he’s exploring and maturing his personal sound here is delightful.
I’m so excited to see what the lyric translations will be!
“Heaven” is so, so dreamy and so sad, I love it.
This is insane in the best way.
The comforting vintage, jazzy sounds, like the bassoon, it’s all so rich and warm and just kind of like melted chocolate. But then you have the discomfort of constantly changing tempos and beats and textures. To me it’s like you’re pulling fabric through your fingers and sometimes it’s corduroy, sometimes pleather, then silk, canvas. The spiky side of velcro sometimes. Definitely some velvet and then plain old t-shirt poly blends (soft and worn in, not thick and stiff). And the whole album is part of this same fabric.
It just feels like he really just put all his feelings and thoughts and emotions, half sorted, half tangled into this album and just handed us this beautiful mess and said, “this is what real is.”
My face is just that gaping Patrick meme, and I ain’t even mad. Joon has no fucks to give, and he OWNS it! I’m gonna have to listen to this a couple times, it’s not completely my vibe, but I’m BEYOND impressed and shocked with him (as always). Yeah boiiiii, speak your truths
Nuts to Out of Love to Domodachi 💯💯💯💯💯💯
King Namjoon just doesn’t miss! The lyrics are not holding back ohhhhh he’s telling us so many things and I’m here for it!
I’ll post my thoughts later but right now I’m enjoying the hell out of this album! This is Namjoon telling everyone (yes, even ARMYs lol) to fck off and let him do what he wants. He’s always alluded to not being able to say what he really wants to say, and this album seems to be the first step into verbalizing everything he’s been keeping inside for a long time.
Edit: *Groin* and the throwback to Yoongi’s lyrics in Nevermind. That song has had a very big impact on BTS because Jimin has it tattooed on him and Joon referencing it after all these years? Amazing. Also, “not a fucking diplomat” YESSSSSSS
IM ONLY OUT OUT OF LOVE SO FAR AND IM LOSING IT?!?!
My god this album!!!! This album makes me feel like Namjoon is such a FUN and interesting person to hang out with. This makes me want to be delulu and just keep thinking that I want to hang out with him. We don’t even have to go Namjooning. We can just get goddamn lost.
I think this one is going to be a grower for me! So many cool moments but also a lot of dissonance, which isn’t usually my thing. But I appreciate the experimental aspect of it, and I love that Joon is exploring new types of music. So far I really like Heaven, and of course Come Back to Me, which has been my obsession for the last couple of weeks.
Every song is somehow delightful? Like the music is going all over the place and changing up frequently, but it all goes together.
He’s funny and sexy and nasty and sassy and and and and ugh I’m so in love
And I think he’s just saying the stuff he’s been wanting to say, and I really love it. This project is so cohesive, and even more than Indigo, it should be listened to as a full album, one song after another in order.
I’m in awe of RM’s versatility and musical genius. Seriously, how you can you have this album, Indigo, Mono, and a huge portion of the BTS discography come from one person????
Like wtf, every song is so good!! No skip!!
Edit: it’s just clicked for me that we’re getting MVs for Right People, Wrong Place, out of love, and Domodachi. And a live video for Nuts. I’m going to die
I’m only onto domodachi right now, and the main thing I have thought so far is I’m constantly taken by surprise (positive) by each song. And with domodachi that’s cut down to every 30 seconds lol.
edit, I started off taking notes of my thoughts but that plan crashed and burned because SO MUCH was happening I couldn’t multitask. Overall: I really like it! The music itself feels very playful with how it was constructed, starting out with Right People, Wrong Place with the beat bouncing from ear to ear and getting layers added to it. I think playful is really how I’d describe this album – there is so many interesting things going on and it’s just *fun* to listen to.
I think domodachi is my favorite (woodwind ensemble??? HELLO!?) with just how much it changes up it feels very frenetic and it’s great like I have caffeine surging through my veins. I really liked the psychedelic feeling that Heaven has too.
Godspeed to the translators! 🫡
For me, this album feels like falling in love with music for the first time.
I’m just feeling all the things at once.
The production on this thing is INSANE. I’m in love.
What in the art school all-nighter lol. This is certainly new, and in a good way. I’m living for it so far, just wanna know the lyrics now.
After the first full play through, my most coherent thought is: I feel like I just listened to a musical version of a MoMA exhibit
This is gonna need some serious ‘pay attention a la Miles Davis post Kind of Blue’ to fully appreciate everything going on here. Much wow.
Whole album gives me retro gaming music vibes, it’s so unique, experimental and kind of bounces all over the place unexpectedly.
Groin is fire and I need the lyrics!
Heaven would’ve fit straight in with his Indigo album, wonder if Joon wrote it around the same time. I think this is my fav style of his, the soft, crooning voice.
I can see LOST! easily getting stuck in my head / was already dancing to it.
And am I hearing country in ㅠㅠ ?! What an endearing way to thank his audience!
I can 100% see this not being everyone’s cup of tea and likely won’t be mainstream, some songs i didnt immediately connect to either, but that’s ok, I’m still so impressed at his versitality in putting out song after song that are all so different
Edit: how the heck did he manage that smooth as heck transition between Nuts and Out of love ???
Like…how do I formulate any sort of comment that could adequately sum up how I feel about this album? I thought Indigo was already so musically mature I wasn’t sure what he could possibly do to top it…this album is so weird, so adventurous, left me with so many moments where I just had absolute whiplash.
That switch up halfway through Around the World in a Day…I fear I am going to play this song to death because of it. And Heaven is such a gorgeous song. And Credit Roll, I’m not sure why he’s the one saying he’s grateful…uh I think we should be the grateful ones?
Im looking forward to listening more and seeing what song settles as my favorite. With Indigo I actually didn’t really connect with Closer at first, and now it’s actually my favorite song to come out of the entire solo era for the guys so far.
I really love Around the World rn – the blend of voices is just perfect. Also vibing heavily with Domodachi and Heaven (gives me a little Tame Impala). Lost is so good and Come back to me works really well after listening to the whole album. The transition between Nuts and out of love was 🙌 didn’t even notice the song had changed tbh. I like Groin and Right People Wrong Place but I think I’ll have to listen to them again and again to really appreciate them.
eternalhyyh translated the Groin lyrics, and Joon referenced to Yoongi’s “If I feel like I’m going to crash, then I just accelerate even harder” GAH
This is definitely a “gives no fucks” album and literally 1000% what I needed.
This album was so good and the transitions!? Omg I’m ascending to heaven
Ok time for a live reaction commentary!
* Right People, Wrong Place – idk why this kinda reminded me of the intro for that show called “Charmed”. I’m really liking those electronic beats, at just over a minute it is rightfully an INTRO
* Nuts – I haven’t seen the translation but my guess right now is that this is a sexual song? I really enjoy this one and will likely be on repeat!! This sound is right up my alley.
* out of love – My dog got scared as soon as the intro started lol. This kinda surprised me coming from RM, reminds me very much of old school Kanye (when I still liked his music) but with some jazzy elements.
* Domodachi – ayyyeee I am not sure what headspace he was in when he wrote this but I LOVE it so much!! This is so unique to my ears, feels like a whole experience. I wish he were around to talk about his creative process for this one
* ? (Interlude) – Groovy. Why are you a banger! I just wish it weren’t an interlude now. If he ever has a mini concert can this be band time!
* Groin – okay this has to be my favorite so far lmaoooo. So good!! How to say my fave song is “Groin”.
* Heaven – Just like it’s title this feels so good. I like the timing of it in the album, kinda just pulled us in to a hug for a bit
* LOST – how perfect this is to come after Heaven!! This is when I felt okay this album is so well curated (?), the sequence of the tracks was just so thoughtfully done. I love LOST, too. It’s vying for fave track
* Around the World in a Day – this song has no business being so sweet. Is that Moses Sumney doing those high notes? wow! amazing voice. I’m also liking RMs vocals in this one. There’s this bass guitar (?) in the back that I’m really digging. oh wait LMAO what is this, it is not sweet anymore. Yes RM pop off!
* TT (credit roll) – unexpected! sounds like something SZA would do. This is really cool
* Come back to me – The perfect ending! 2 weeks in and I am still listening to this song daily. Perfect vibes
In conclusion: What a gift!! This album just solidifies to me what a musical genius RM is. A once in a lifetime artist fr
This album sounds like a surrealist painting to me, especially the first half. The songs have this sound that sound like confusion, not knowing what’s up or down, like there’s some strange things around with a tinge of suspense in parts but also simultaneously like that strangeness is also perceived as normal? It sounds like what a Dali or Miro painting would sound like to me. It’s really interesting and I want to go back and see how the lyrics fit into the soundscape and how i perceive it upon first listen🤔
My favorites on the album are definitely Heaven and Lost!, with Heaven as my number one as sonically I really love the track/instrumentals on this one!
This album is actually a masterpiece and I am not exaggerating.
WOWWWWWWW *Come back to me* hits so different at the end of this whole album. Spring’s always been here……. You don’t have to be the anything you see….. It sits at the same table as “I do wish me a lovely night.” Just completely bringing the peace and resolution after that rollercoaster of every emotion everywhere all at once.
I also want to talk about the juxtaposition of the rich, acoustic jazz sounds, like the flute, saxophone, bass clarinet, bassoon. Contrasted with the super electronic sounds of like “let’s push this machine to it’s extremes.” Definitely matches the vibes of the whole album, just a tangle, everything connected but contrasting. All existing at the same time, in the same mind.
So.. this album is an experiment for sure! I’ve only listened to the album once so far and unfortunately don’t have any immediate faves, but that’s okay. Maybe certain songs will grow on me after a few more listens. Overall though, I’m just happy that he’s continuing to make music that feels true to him, that’s really what matters. Even if this album isn’t my jam, I’m sure others will enjoy it and it’ll probably reach a new audience as well.
This album is so fucking weird, and I’m obsessed with it. I love Namjoon’s brain.
I didn’t even notice the transition from Nuts to Out of Love. To me it sounds like one gigantic song. Did anyone else get confused?
This album is very reminiscent of Balming Tiger and Tyler, The Creator. It might be the most experimental body of work BTS has released solo and as a group, so it’s probably not that accessible for the (k)pop fans. I love how layered, weird and sonically cohesive this album is, but that makes it hard to pick a stand out track. For now, my favorites are out of love, Domodachi, Groin, Heaven, LOST! and Come back to me, but I need more listens to process. And ㅠㅠ (Credit Roll) is very cute haha
Just finished my first listen of the album. I’m just so impressed by Namjoon’s artistry. He’s unafraid to try something new and that’s just so beautiful to see.
I really love the album already. I do need a few more listens to sort out all of my thoughts on every song and I can wait to read the lyrics. But I am loving Around the world in a day the most. Holy moly Moses Sumney’s voice!!! Stunning!!!
I have to also mention how beautifully this album flows. It all works so well together yet it doesn’t sound the same. I wonder how long he spent on song placement on the album because it all feels so deliberate.
I hope it’s ok to be sentimental here. It’s just that so much of their Chapter 2 songs have been so personal. And I’ve been depressed and lost for months and it’s just so comforting to hear them say all the things I wish I could be brave and kind enough to tell myself. And I’m just really grateful for BTS, again and again. ![img](emote|t5_2zqih|21326)
I didn’t believe him when he said this is better than Indigo but he’s right I fear
