I don’t know why they keep trying this. There is no “next BTS”. There will be other bands but in the same way that BTS is not the “next Beatles”, there is no value in comparing.
I’m seriously so done with this next bts thing seriously. The same tactic always give it up already.
I think the title is misleading as this article is really more about Bang PD and his approach to talent development. There’s little tidbits in there about BTS sprinkled throughout, especially about how much independence artists should have.
Edit: important to note the primary audience of this article is not fans – the primary audience of intended to be business folks. It’s been clear for the last few years now ambitious Bang PD is, and this article is one tactic to increase his name and visibility in the western business community. He’s trying to grow and diversify Hybe’s holdings.
The article is interesting (even though the title is obviously click-baity). I obviously knew already that Hybe is a huge corporation whose main goal is to expand and make money, but reading about the business side of it and about how the sausage gets made so to speak always evokes conflicting feelings in me.
Shoot, I didn’t realize this had been posted here and just replied to a comment about this in the weekly thread. I’m going to copy and paste my comment here.
I signed up and just skim read through it. I rolled my eyes one too many times. “The Next BTS” is used way too much (just looked through it again, it isn’t used more than like once but once is still too much). The guy from Geffen claiming they are going to create the biggest group in the world. I wish the young ladies the best of luck but being bigger than BTS or even at that level isn’t easy and that kind of weight shouldn’t be placed on their shoulders (I’ve felt the same way about New Jeans, there’s so many expectations on them and they are so young.)
There’s too much talk of if BTS getting back together and the fickleness of fans…some of the wording just rubbed me the wrong way. I also completely skipped over Bang PD’s back story stuff, I’ve read most of all of that before.
I get they want hype around the group but Bang PD knows (and says as much in the article) that this just doesn’t happen.
Very interesting read. According to the article, BTS had as trainees and of course now a lot autonomy over their personal lives. For me that autonomy is obvious from the musical perspective and also how freely they spoke on their live streams, and certainly now this is very apparent. Anyway, this summary of Bang’s journey building BH and Hybe highlights how ambitious Bang was starting out. I’m sure he passed that enthusiasm on to the members as well. It’s hard to sell people on your dream and even harder to get them to meld their dreams with yours. From the business perspective and having just a small glimpse myself into what it actually takes for this kind of entertainment endeavor to be successful, I’m always impressed with his will and work ethic. There are also for sure countless folks who helped build this company along the way. Anyway, I’ll look forward to the inevitable documentary and then movie about Bang and BTS that will eventually come out, hopefully created in-house by Big Hit!

From the article: “but even Bang admits there may never be another BTS”. Of course there won’t ever be another BTS. Lightning ⚡️ won’t strike in the exact same place twice. BTS isn’t going to be reverse engineered like a piece of mechanical equipment or electronics for some entertainment company. Never gonna happen. The other groups will have to be talented and unique in their own way to be successful.
Just curious as a new ARMY what some of the original, long term ARMY think of Bang in general.
