> “Given the volatility of world events, we have decided not to move forward with the 2023 MTV EMAs out of an abundance of caution for the thousands of employees, crew members, artists, fans, and partners who travel from all corners of the world to bring the show to life,” said a Paramount spokesperson.
> “The MTV EMAs are an annual celebration of global music. As we watch the devastating events in Israel and Gaza continue to unfold, this does not feel like a moment for a global celebration. With thousands of lives already lost, it is a moment of mourning.
Not going to comment on anything else except that on the bright side, maybe this will result in a less punishing schedule for JK…but the poor boy has been quite unlucky with his debut stages (rain at the GMA event preventing him from doing a live show, rain at the Global Citizen Live, and now this). (ETA: I guess this means no awards too! That is unfortunate, but hopefully there will be other awards/accolades to make up for it).
I think BigHit will release a 3rd promotion schedule for GOLDEN
it’s for the best and for everyone’s safety, but i also feel for european ARMYs who were looking forward to going to the EMAs to watch jungkook perform, especially since the tannies haven’t performed in europe in a long while (besides jungkook in london to perform for the BBC shows).
jungkook must be quite disappointed too, knowing how much he wants and loves to meet ARMYs from all around the world 🙁
Unfortunate situation, but the decision is totally understandable.
Considering they’ve had to evacuate multiple French airports just in the past few days alone due to threats, while it is unfortunate this seems like the smartest thing MTV/the EMAs could have done. Gathering that many people together in a crowd presents a heightened security risk in calmer times, I can’t imagine the logistical nightmare and stress of everyone involved trying to ensure the event and all of the attendees were safe during heightened security concerns.
As important as JK’s debut is to us, a musical performance pales in comparison to the seriousness of things that are happening right now.
With everything going on is there a possibility that Bighit will postpone Golden release date and change the schedule?
Hopefully Big Hit will figure out something else to do instead. I’m really looking forward to new Jungkook performances!
I wonder if this will affect the Nov 8th schedule. I had suspension that it was something in Europe since it’s only 2 days apart from the emas.
This does seem like the right decision for the event. France in particular has a highest threat alert right now and safety is more important than the awards.
I do hope JK gets an alternative option to launch Golden in Europe. Maybe even just a TV appearance. But we’ll see what Big Hit can organise and how things develop here.
He hasn’t had much luck with opening stages, but whatever he does, I know he’ll be amazing!

It’s the best decision in these current times.
