I hope Jimin wins Top K-pop Album and Artist!
I haven’t really paid attention in a while… are these new categories? Do we know the metrics? I really hope they don’t suddenly include voting for these … so none of the members got nominated in any other categories like top song sales?
I mean, I’m happy they got nominated, don’t get me wrong…
Overall, I do have an issue with separate KPop categories but that’s for another time.
Damn all of these categories are stacked. Love basically everyone nominated 😭. Just shows how good of a year KPop had.

Seven is not a K-pop song. It should be in song of the year or something else. Not a K-pop song.
And Suga should be in the general Touring category. He’s had one of the top earners in the USA wasn’t he??
What’s crazy is that as of now, each kpop nomination has a BTS member there, which shows how strong they are as individuals in each category.
I do feel like they are pushing kpop categories to keep not only kpop songs/artists out of the main ones but also other categories (be it rap or country or latin) but that’s a take for another day.
How is seven kpop?? The song is in English. I hope he gets nomination in main categories.

They want to gatekeep kpop artists out of the main categories while still capitalizing on the social media engagement and impressions brought in by kpop fans. It’s so transparent.
I’m glad that they are nominated and I hope they win every award because they deserve it.
With that, I will also say I’m not a fan of creating/putting BTS in all of these K pop categories because at this point it’s seems like the BBMAs is creating these categories just to exclude them. I hate the USA (yes I’m American) way of gatekeeping music and not completely accepting artist from other countries.
Seven ruled the charts for weeks. It not a K pop song but a Pop song. Suga had one of the highest grossing tours this year and I’m pretty sure his tour was in the top 5 for highest grossing rap tours. Including the US.
Anyway that’s my soap box for today. I’m very happy that they are nominated but wish we didn’t have to continue dealing with this. BTS started in K pop but they are much bigger than that now.
Pushing every Korean artist into a K-pop category feels….weird. Like they cant compete with the western artist? Groups like Black Pink, Stray Kids, and New Jeans are big in their own right. Yoongi’s tour wasn’t K-pop and Seven is completely in English with a American collab.

K-pop touring nom for Yoongi? I mean thanks but girl, please. I believe he had the highest-grossing rap tour ever in the US but sure, put him in the K-pop category so you can give the “real” rap tour award to your boy Drake or sumn.

If they want to have genre categories (and they do & have for years!) that’s fine, but when the genre distinction seems to boil down to solely “music made by a specific ethnic group” it’s a Yike from me.
Edit: as always when the subject of genres that are too broad or purposefully othering pops up, I think of [this great opinion piece by David Byrne about the genre of “world music”](https://www.nytimes.com/1999/10/03/arts/music-crossing-musics-borders-in-search-of-identity-i-hate-world-music.html). While “kpop” as a genre is definitely more narrow in scope than something like “world music”, it reduces all the music of varying musical styles to “made by Koreans” without any nuance (at least in the way the BBMAs have decided to use it).

I’m happy for Jimin, Yoongi and Jung Kook… I think, tbh I’m not sure how to feel about these. I don’t like Billboard and I 100% don’t trust them so it’s like “yay … ish”.
BBMAs is data based IF thwy categorize the songs and artists in appropriate categories. Which doesn’t always happen.
I think all these kpop categories for a genre that barely makes an impact on the main charts outside of a few artist is interesting…to say the least
Also, it seems like BBMA is shifting formats and will not get broadcast and be done on social channels…
Note: why does BB always have a very short list in some of these big genre categories like 3 in Rap. There are other artist to fill this out whether US rap artist or global rap artist. Like what do they even be doing.

I was really hoping that D-Day would get a rap album nomination but I’m still happy that Yoongi got at least one for Touring. However I don’t understand why the BBMAs are making a distinction between Kpop Touring and “Top Touring Artist”?
Also Jimin getting four nominations? 😭

Edit: Don’t tell me that the only reason why Jungkook didn’t get a nomination in one of the main categories is because he’s Korean? Seven is completely in English and American producers and songwriters are credited. Hell, it even features an American rapper 💀
