231110 Jungkook’s debuts on the UK Official Charts

Well done fellow UKMYs!!!!!!!!! We did amazingly 🥳🥳🥳

I am so, so proud. I tuned into the Radio 1 live chart show for the first time in practically a hundred years to hear them call these positions. We did good UK Army 🇬🇧!!

As I listened in, I started transcribing the DJs intro comment to SNTY in the Singles Chart, because it’s so great, especially after the Grammys noms sadness today.

“I think when we talk about Kpop in the UK right now, we say ‘oh, isn’t Kpop doing well?’. Well, can we stop that and give it the accolades it deserves, please? It’s maybe the biggest genre in the world right now, maybe after Afrobeats. Kpop is very relevant, it’s the sound of the moment. Hence Jung Kook taking #3 album and two positions on the [singles] chart today, so here is SNTY at #6 from Jung Kook.”

Say it louder, promote it wider Radio 1. Guys, I don’t think I’ve ever been this proud listening to a chart. Not even when I was a Boyzone fan girl in my Tweens!!

I also hope this reminds Big Hit that the UK exists as a promo market. Please?

There’s obviously a separate discussion about whether SNTY, an English song, written and produced by an all US and Canadian team is Kpop, simply because JK is Korean, but I don’t think the industry is there yet.
